What every Small Business should know about Branding

Feb 14, 2008 by Brian B

  • When I speak to people about branding, the first thing they usually tell me that comes to their mind is the Nike swoosh or the McDonald's Arches.

Banish this connotation from your head; your thinking of the identity or imagery of the company. By thinking and focusing on this, your hurting your small business and being detrimental to how you should approach branding.

Instead, focus and engage with the the following mantra from the branding god himself, Mr. Marty Neumeier:

Banish this connotation from your head; your thinking of the identity or imagery of the company. By thinking and focusing on this, your hurting your small business and being detrimental to how you should approach branding.

Instead, focus and engage with the the following mantra from the branding god himself, Mr. Marty Neumeier:

"A brand is a person's gut feeling about your product or your service or your small business."

In essence, it's not what YOU say, it's what YOUR CUSTOMERS say!

Advertising won't change how they feel about your small business, to be honest, it's like your shouting at them to change! But your thinking, I don't get it, how do you change what they say or feel about my small business?

BE DISTINCT! Be unparalleled, unequaled, and extraordinary! It takes time, hard work, reasoning, research and so much more. As you strive for all this instead of throwing your time and money at advertising, you'll feel the change in attitudes and word of mouth about your small business.

By the same token, we feel your struggles and burdens on the process of being remarkable. We here at LittleEngine are trying hard to be different, REALLY different. But of course it's strenuous, even as a small business, to move quick enough to separate ourselves. However, through customer service, new features, a unique design, a blog, promises to our clients, and so forth, we feel we are moving in the right direction.

So what's stopping you from being remarkable? Start the process today!

    • I like the site and the posts. The verification process will hopefully be fast as that will truly help 'brand' your site. There is a real lack of resources available to the small business marketplace. I'm glad you are taking advantage of that opportunity and hope to be a participant in your growth.
