Are you ready? Tribe management is the future. It will change the way your small business should think about marketing, advertising communicating, and branding.
Seth Godin states Tribe Management as, "...permission [based], the understanding that the real asset most organizations can build isn't an amorphous brand but is in fact the privilege of delivering anticipated, personal and relevant messages to people who want to get them."
Permission is the back bone of tribe management, because these fans (tribe members) of your small business are telling you they want to communicate with you. They don't want to be spammed or yelled at with lousy print ads, but provided valuable content and messages that can help them tackle their problems in a reasonable manner.
Think of your small business more as a person, a tribe leader. How would your tribe leader teach, provide, guide, and ultimately CONNECT your tribe of fans? Furthermore, the exciting thing about this web2.0 movement, is the ability for your small business to use social media websites to connect, feed, and satisfy your tribe.
Let's use LittleEngine as an example of how to manage your small business tribe:
- Post your small business LittleEngine profile link on any collateral, website, store front, etc. for your small business
- Ask your tribe members, people who love what your small business, to sign-up and add your small business on LittleEngine
- When your putting on an event, post it to your LittleEngine profile, your fans will be notified and extended an invitation
- Individually communicate with your fans, if possible; have 5 fans on LittleEngine? Great! Send each one a personal message, asking them questions, dig for insight on how you can provide them even more value
- Be open and ready for communication, if a fan has a question, answer it throughly and as fast as possible. Don't ignore it, don't put it on the backburner, get on it and provide value!
- Give away information for free! Educate your fans on new ideas, concepts, and things your innovating with at your small business. You'll look like the expert, while your competitors will look slow and dull
- Partner with other small businesses in your area or even the nation! Create collaborations through LittleEngine that brings both parties more tribe members, power, money, ideas, clout, etc.
Bonus point!
8.Post coupons that are truly spectacular and geared toward your LittleEngine fans. Don't give away coupons you give to everybody else; post something remarkable, something that can go viral and something that will in turn create even more fans.
The concept we are repeatedly focusing on here is permission, you are trying to get more tribe members - members who ALLOW your message to impact them, as well as, enjoy the connection with each other in the tribe. Either way, a tribe will be built with or without you, will you be there to make a positive impact?
